A Mother's Love

I am so excited to share with you a personal story today that has been thirteen years in the making.

From the time my daughter Maggie entered the world, we knew she was a strong girl.

She was such a fun, silly little girl that followed around her big brother around like a shadow. Whatever Ander did, Maggie couldn’t wait to do it too.

So when Ander started playing soccer, Maggie couldn’t wait until it was her turn.

To be honest, I think she started when she was three and a half and even played on her brother’s team!

I can’t believe that I have the picture from her very first practice. It was the first and last time she ever wore pink cleats.

It seems like yesterday she was running up and down the YMCA soccer field.

One thing that stood out early on was that she kicked with her left foot.

Trust me when I say there is a lot of power in that left foot.

As soon as she could, Maggie wanted to transition to club soccer and you will hear tell how excited she was to have a club jersey.

I know we have literally put thousands of miles on “Bessie” our 2001 Ford Excursion traveling to practices, tournaments, and showcases in all kinds of weather including pouring rain, sweltering heat, sleet, and snow.

From the beginning, it was Maggie’s dream to play soccer in college. Trust me when I say there has to be a personal determination to accomplish that goal.

She has never wavered from her conviction to accomplish that goal.

Whether she knows it or not, she has been an example for me as I strive for my own personal goals.

There is no guarantee.

Faith. Passion. Determination.

Proud doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about her accomplishment.

I love the young woman that she is growing into from her quirky sense of humor to her work ethic to complete the work and do it well.

And while on some occasions you will hear me complain about getting up at 5AM for a Saturday game or the eight hour drive home starting at 6PM because that was when the game was over, I would not have missed this journey for all the money in the world.

As sad as I am that we only have one more travel season together, I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her.

Mags, I will always be your biggest fan. And I will always be a proud soccer mom. #36

Maggie has verbally committed to The Citadel, her top school choice.

Maggie’s last goal for the season.
